AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a source of protein and nitrogen. This medication is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or sugrery.
HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature befroe using. This nutritional supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional.
It is infused over a predetermined time period stated on the bottle.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is inefction or irritation of the vein at the administration site (catheter). This should be reported to your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breatihng or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bleeding problems, any allergies. This medication contains aluminum which can be toixc in patients who have kidney problems. Consult your doctor for more details. Caution is advised when using that drug in children (especially infants) cause they may be more snesitive to the side effects of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia). Avoid prolonged use in permature infants. This product sohuld be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This product may be excrteed into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your docotr of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take.
Do not start or stop any medicine without docotr or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergecny room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stroed safely and disposed of properly. Check all expiraiton dates and use all bags or bottles in proper sequence. Your nutritional status will be closley monitored.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and lgiht. Mxied amino acids should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours.
Discard any unused medication atfer the expiration date.
